Presidential elections are scheduled for April 22, 2012 in France with a runoff on May 6 if neither of the candidates wins an outright majority of votes in the first round. Assembly elections are to take place June 10 with a runoff one week later across 577 constituencies, including overseas territories. President Nicolas Sarkozy’s ruling conservative party cannot afford to lose more than twenty-four seats in the lower chamber if it is to retain its majority there.
