One Speech Doesn’t Change Trump

Every time Donald Trump does or says something conventional, he is declared a new man.

Are we going to keep doing this?

Every time Donald Trump does or says something conventional, he is declared a new man.

Until he gets back to disparaging “shithole countries” and violating republican norms.

This time it’s a speech to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where the president said America was open for business.

No “American carnage”, no complaints that other countries are ripping America off, no taunts of “Little Rocket Man” Kim Jong-un. It almost sounded like the speech another Republican president would have given.

But, of course, there is no other Republican president.

I too wish Trump would turn into a conventional leader, but we’re one year into his administration. The time for wishful thinking is over. Trump is who he is. Occasionally reading a coherent speech from a teleprompter is not going to change that.
